IMBO COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM
BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Growing Community Roots partner in West Kenya is IMBO Community Action Program (ICAP), a certified NGO. 
 
ICAP's OBJECTIVE:
To empower the community in their efforts to alleviate poverty by initiating development programs such as water and sanitation, infrastructure, economic development, education, healthcare, and other charitable works.

Growing Community Roots and IMBO Community Action Program (ICAP) use a Six-
Step Process for the Funding, Implementation and Oversight of our School Projects:

Step I: Project Background and Key Information provided by ICAP
Step II: Growing Community Roots Review and Approval of Project by the GCR Board

Step III: Funding (GCR) and Construction by a Contractor with ICAP oversight
Step IV: Post Construction (ICAP)
Step V: On Going Relationships with Growing Community Roots and Donors
Step VI: Annual On-Site School Visits conducted by ICAP; annual reports submitted to GCR that are posted on the GCR website

 

ICAP, the Principal and the School Board oversee the construction that is completed by
a professional contractor. ICAP provides meals for the workers. The school ensures the
educational infrastructure is well maintained and is in excellent working condition. ICAP
provides seeds for the community gardens that include planting and harvesting of kale,
onions, parsley, and tomatoes.

CHAIRPERSON: FRANCIS RANDIGA OGOLA SUMBA

Francis Ogola is the coordinator of the Kamuga/Koyier A & B water projects. He is a retired primary school teacher who now assists Mary Lieta in monitoring water projects. He is also very active in the Raruowa Catholic Mission Parish of St. Bernadette.

 

SECRETARY: EVEREST OCHOLA DIERO

Everest Ochola Diero is the Head Master of Abundu Primary School. He is the Chair of Abundu Community Development Organization in Kanam B, which is developing a cultural center for Luo Peoples and researching geothermal energy harvesting. He also oversees the groups thriving chicken income generation project.

 

TREASURER & DIRECTOR OF WATER AND SANITATION PROJECTS- KENYA:

MARY OYIERA LIETA, CSJ Consociate

Mary Oyiera Lieta is a retired secondary school Head Mistress and English Teacher. She founded and chaired the Marit Women’s Group, an organization that buys and sells maize, operates a scholarship program, and supports a craft center. She also advised the St. Monica Women’s Group and teaches sewing and cooking to women and girls at the Kanam Legal Assistance Association (KALEEF).

TRUSTEE:  ANNE AKINYI CHONI

Anne Akinyi Choni is the Director and Community Health Worker for a health care outreach program in Kamuga and Koyier that tends to HIV+ infected orphans. She is also a church elder in Seventh Day Adventist Church.

TRUSTEE:  NICHOLAS OBUYA K’ORIKO

Nicholas Obuya K’Oriko is the Vice President of Micro/Consumer Banking at Ecobank HQ in Nairobi.  He currently sponsors projects for the Koliech Women Group and is the Coordinator of the Kokoth Kataa Water Project.

TRUSTEE: LEA MAUREEN LIETA, CSJ CONSOCIATE

Lea Lieta is head of the Human Resource department of the Homabay County Government. She mentors several orphans and houses them and is an active member of Marit Women Group. She is currently pursuing a PHD in Human Resources.

 

TRUSTEE:  SERPHINE ACHOLA MAMBE, CSJ Consociate

Serphine Achola Mambe is the Treasurer of the Marit and Monica Women Groups and is a sewing instructor at the Kanam Home Craft Center.  She is a representative for Catholic Relief Services and facilitates young men’s farming cooperative.  She is also a counselor for KALEEF.

 

TRUSTEE:  ANTONINA TABU ODHIAMBO

Antonina Tabu Odhiambo is a member of the St. Monica Women’s Group. She is also a  representative for the HIV+ affected and elderly.

TRUSTEE: KENNEDY ODHIAMBO OLELA

Kennedy Odhiambo Olela is a young man who is highly respected in the village. Despite not having an education worth noting, many community groups consult with him, and he holds various positions in his church and youth groups.

TRUSTEE:  ZILPA ACHIANDO OGEMBO

Zilpa Achiando Ogembo is a Chairperson for both the Ohula Women Group in Oriang’ and the St. Monica Widows Women Group.  She is a church elder in Seventh Day Adventist Church and facilitates income generation for several women groups.

TRUSTEE: MAIMUNAR ALUOCH OMAR

Maimunar Aluoch Omar is a Records Manager at the Teachers Service Commission at the Head Quarters dealing with teachers records in Kenya. She is also a custodian of 30,000 digital and physical Teacher’s files.  She also a member of Beacon movement of teachers Kenya, dealing with Child Protection issues and gender -based violence.

 

TRUSTEE: GEORGE O. OWIDI

George O. Owidi is a former Primary School teacher and is currently actively involved in mentorship for youth and widows.

 

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER: SAMUEL OKUTA LIETA, CSJ CONSOCIATE

Samuel Lieta’s experience includes working in business as a business owner and a company, a political and community activist, and is highly respected as a leader in the Homa Bay area. He is currently the Vice Chair of the Board of Management of the St. Alfred Alara Secondary School.
