Thanks to you, Growing Community Roots raised $45,786 for four 81,000 liter water catchment systems, bathrooms (boys and girls), a wash station, and fenced garden are for the 427 students attending Migeni Comprehensive Primary School. Thanks to our donors, the school now has safe water, adequate sanitation and a community garden for teachers, staff and the community at large. Thank you!
The school is a publicly funded Catholic school established in 1990 and registered with the Kenyan government. The surrounding community is mostly made up of single-parent households and rely on fishing from the community lake, located 8km away from the school. Subsistence farming generates less than one dollar per day.
BACKGROUND
Migeni Comprehensive Primary School is a publicly Catholic sponsored school established in 1990 and registered with the government. It currently hosts 427 students (215 boys and 195 girls). They are under the mentorship of 15 teachers (7 female and 8 male).
SIGNIFICANT NEED IDENTIFIED
With a population of more than 350 people, the community has a majority of single parent households. Many older siblings have dropped out of school to care for younger siblings.
The surrounding population relies on fishing from the lake which is 8km away and subsistence farming generates below a dollar per day on average.
The school requests funding for water tanks, toilets and bathrooms, hand wash stations and fencing for a vegetable garden. The Management Board is responsible for the maintenance of the project investment.
