Thanks to you, Growing Community Roots raised $38,000 for four 10,000 liter water catchment systems, bathrooms (boys and girls), two wash stations, and fenced garden. Thanks to our donors, the school now has safe water, adequate sanitation and a community garden for teachers, staff and the community at large. Thank you!

BACKGROUND
Koliech Comprehensive School is divided into three sections: pre-primary EYE (Early Year Education); primary school with 6 grades; junior high with 7th and 8th grades, and eventually will have 9th and 10th grades – Junior Secondary School.
Koliech Comprehensive School is located in Kokoth “B” Sub Location, Kataa Location of North Karachuonyo ward in Rachuonyo North Sub-County in Homa Bay County. The school occupies six acres of land. It is a public mixed (boys and girls) school with a population of 189 boys and 159 girls. The school has 8 male teachers and two female teachers. Two teachers are supported by the County Government of Homa Bay and four teachers are supported by the community.
The community population includes 80 households and 600 people; with mainly low-income earners who live below a dollar per day making it difficult to raise funds to install water tanks and construct toilets.

SIGNIFICANT NEED IDENTIFIED
With a population of more than 600 people,
the school does not have a permanent water source – only one 5,000-liter water tank. The only source is “Tinga water pan” which is 4 km aways that is also seasonal. The water must be treated before consumption. There is a four-door latrine shared by both the girls and boys. The five-door latrine for girls collapsed.
The school needs a changing room for girls to minimize absenteeism.
The school does not have a vegetable garden or a tree farm.
